Which Christmas Tree grows best in South Texas?

I have a son who will be a year and 4 months Christmas 2010. I want to get a Christmas tree for him but hate to buy a cut tree to represent Christ then have it die and be thrown in the garbage. I also do not want to buy a fake tree that will eventually be thrown away then end up in a landfill. So I feel the best thing to do is grow my own Christmas tree, maybe in a pot or in my front yard. I live in Victoria Texas, I'm very close to the Gulf of Mexico. I live in a very hot, humid climate which has times of drought in the summer as well as weeks of rain. So I need some advice, which type of tree would grow best in this climate? I want a very fragrant, beautiful tree that grows to a certain height so that I won't kill myself on a ladder trying to string lights on it. Also can I purchase a mature tree to plant or do I need to grow one from a seedling? If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Help me make my sons first Christmas a grand experience! I don't want to teach him to buy a tree every year then have it die, it feels wrong to me. It was tradition when I was growing up but if I can break the cycle with my son I would love to do so. Thanks again.
